Reims – the home of champagne

image

We had an amazing time in Reims with plenty of days to soak in champagne. A fantastic city to explore by walking around and getting lost whenever you can. Well at least that is what we did as maps are over rated. But getting lost just meant you found more to see and do. My kinda place ……

Had to love our hotel. Here is a view out our room window over the courtyard.

And of course there is the history and the experience of local champagne to be had. Oh yeah and you can buy a beer, so nothing more to say but …… Reims was a lot of fun.

Some photos …..

We decided to include a champagne tour around Reims and to Epernay.

Here we are in the Champagne district hills with our guide telling us about the grape growing process ……

You may notice that Kylie and I are not with the guide. That is because we were sitting in the mini bus honking the horn …….. there was champagne tasting to be done ……. Talking about grape growing was keeping us from the real business of champagne.

Anyway, we visited a couple of well known champagne houses where they have miles of underground caves to ferment the champagne. We snapped a few photos below …….. but my – To the Batcave Robin – quotes were totally wasted on this audience.

We also enjoyed some local champagnes that do not get exported ………. Pretty impressive tasting too.

And if anyone is worried that champagne is now more important than beer, I will leave you with this photo ……

When they said a large beer, they were not kidding. Mmmmmmmmmmm ……. I love Reims !!
