Champagne has a kick ……

One last post before we leave Reims. I had to include this photo because we spotted it in a shop window on the way home after champagne tasting. I went back the next day to check that it was not the champagne plus beers playing tricks … And it was still there …. plus this one……

Anyway before we leave Reims, I can share one fact. The signing of the WWII German surrender occurred in Reims on 7 May 1945. It was in a little red brick schoolhouse that was being used as an allied forces headquarters.

And some 70 years later plus a few extra days and we were standing outside that little red brick school house. There is a current school right next door … I could tell by all the kids around the corner smoking.

Here is a photo of the building. Thanks to my ability to walk aimlessly around town, we turned up during the lunch break when everything closes for 2 hours (or whenever they feel like opening back up).

No big issue really as inside the building is just the desk that they signed the document on.

I am guessing the champagne helped with the surrender. I call it the Surrender to French Bubbles Treaty.

Farewell Reims. A place with lots of nice buildings, champagne …….. and lots of other surprises if you are prepared to get lost.
